Miami – The Magic City
Miami, nicknamed “The Magic City,” due to how quickly the city grew. It’s full of life, from its amazing buildings to its stuning beaches.
History: Check out the Art Deco buildings in South Beach – they’re like something out of a movie from the 1930s! Or, go to Little Havana and learn about the city’s Cuban roots.
Culture: Walk along Ocean Drive and feel the energy of Miami. Relax on South Beach and soak up the sun. If you like art, Wynwood is the place to go, with its awesome murals and art galleries.
Food: Eat some super-fresh seafood by the water. Try some real Cuban food in Little Havana. And definitely don’t leave without a slice of key lime pie!

How to Get to HYROX Miami
Let’s figure out how to get there!
By Plane
✈️ Nearest Airport:
Miami International Airport (MIA): This is the closest airport to Miami Beach, about 12 miles (19 km) away. It’s usually the best choice for getting to the Convention Center.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL): This airport is a bit further away, about 30 miles (48 km) north of Miami Beach. It might have some cheaper flights, but it’s a longer trip to Miami Beach, so keep that in mind.
🚖 Getting to the Venue:
- Taxi/Rideshare: You can easily get an Uber or Lyft in Miami. It’ll probably take 20-40 minutes to get to the Convention Center from MIA, and 40-60 minutes from FLL. Just remember that Miami traffic can be really unpredictable, so give yourself plenty of time, especially during rush hour. Always double-check the price before you get in the car.
- Public Transport:
- From MIA: Take the Metrorail (it’s like a train) Orange Line to Government Center. Then, switch to the Metrobus Route 150 (it’s called the Miami Beach Airport Express) – that bus will take you pretty close to the Convention Center. Make sure you check the bus schedule online, though, because it doesn’t run all the time.
- From FLL: Getting to Miami Beach by public transport from FLL is a bit complicated. Tri-Rail (another train) doesn’t go directly to Miami Beach. You’d have to take Tri-Rail to the Metrorail Transfer Station (which isn’t very close to Miami Beach), then take the Metrorail to Government Center, and then take the 150 bus. Honestly, from FLL, a taxi or rideshare is usually much easier (even though it’s more expensive).
By Train
🚆 Nearest Train Station:
- Brightline MiamiCentral Station: If you’re coming from Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach, Brightline is a good option. But, Brightline doesn’t go all the way to Miami Beach. When you get to MiamiCentral, you’ll still need to take the Metrobus (150) or a rideshare to the Convention Center.
By Metrobus
🚍 Miami Beach Trolley: The South Beach Trolley is free and it goes near the Convention Center. It’s a great way to get around South Beach once you’re there.
- Metrobus Route 150 (Airport Express): This bus goes from the airport (MIA) to Miami Beach and stops pretty close to the Convention Center.
By Car
🚗 Navigation: Just type “Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Ctr Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139” into Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps.

🚙 Parking: Parking at the Convention Center can be tricky, especially when there’s a big event. It’s a good idea to pay for parking ahead of time if you can, or just take public transport/rideshare.

💡 Travel Tips:
✔️ Check traffic: Miami traffic can be a mess, especially during rush hour or when there’s something big happening in town. Use a navigation app to see how bad the traffic is.
✔️ Get there early: Give yourself at least 1-2 hours (or even more) to get to the Convention Center, park (if you’re driving), find where you need to go, check in, and warm up. This is really important, especially if you’re taking public transport from FLL – it takes a while!
✔️ Stay nearby: If you can, try to find a hotel in South Beach or near Downtown Miami. It’ll make it much easier to get to the Convention Center.
✔️ Cash & Cards: Most places in Miami Beach take credit cards, but it’s always good to have some US dollars ($) with you for tips, small things you might want to buy, or just in case a place doesn’t take cards.
✔️ Spanish helps: A lot of people in Miami Beach speak Spanish, so knowing a few basic Spanish phrases can be helpful.
✔️ Venue Map: Check the Miami Beach Convention Center website for a map of the place. That way, you won’t get lost when you get there!
