How to Get to HYROX Shanghai

📍 HYROX Shanghai is happening at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

Let’s figure out the best way to get there!

By Plane

✈️ Nearest Airport: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is the closest airport, approximately 30 km (18.6 miles) from the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

🚖 Getting to the Venue:

  • Taxi/Rideshare: Didi (滴滴出行) is the dominant ride-hailing app in China. Taxis are also available. Expect a 30-45 minute ride, depending heavily on traffic. Be prepared for potential communication challenges with taxi drivers if you don’t speak Mandarin. Having your destination written in Chinese can be very helpful.
  • Maglev + Metro: This is often the fastest and most efficient way. Take the Maglev train from PVG to Longyang Road Station (about 8 minutes). Then, transfer to Metro Line 7 (or Line 2, then transfer to Line 7) and exit at Yaohua Road Station. The Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center is a short walk (about 10 minutes) from the station. Purchase your Maglev ticket at the airport.
  • Airport Shuttle: Airport shuttle buses are available, but they can be slower and less predictable than the Maglev + Metro or a taxi/Didi, especially during peak hours.

By Metro

🚇 Metro Lines: Metro Line 7 and Line 8 both serve the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Yaohua Road Station (耀华路站) on Line 7 is generally the closest for Hall 1. Confirm which hall is being used for the event as other stations may be closer to other halls.

By Car

🚗 Navigation: Use a local map app like Baidu Maps (百度地图) or Gaode Maps (高德地图/Amap) for navigation within China. Google Maps may not function reliably without a VPN. Search for “Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center” (上海世博展览馆).

🚙 Parking: On-site parking is available at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, but it can be limited, especially during large events. Arriving early is highly recommended. Be aware that parking fees may apply.

By Public Transport

🚌 Buses: Several bus routes serve the area, including, but not limited to, Lines 314, 576, and 978. Local bus information can be challenging to find in English. The Metro is generally the more convenient option.

Public Transportation Resources:

  • Shanghai Metro: www.shmetro.com – The official website for the Shanghai Metro. While it has an English version, real-time information and route planning can be challenging. Consider using a local transit app.

💡 Travel Tips

✔️ Check traffic before you leave: Shanghai traffic can be very heavy, especially during rush hour. Use a local navigation app for real-time updates.

✔️ Use public transport if possible: The Metro (subway) is usually the fastest and most reliable option in Shanghai.

✔️ Arrive 1-2 hours early: This is essential to allow for travel time, finding your way around the large convention center, registration, and warming up.

✔️ Install a local transport app: Consider installing a local transport app like “Metro大都会” (Metro Daduhui) for easier navigation.

✔️ VPN (Highly Recommended): A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is strongly recommended for accessing Google services (including Google Maps), as well as many other international websites and apps. Download and install a VPN before you arrive in China.

✔️ Language: Learning a few basic Mandarin phrases or having a translation app can be very helpful. Have your destination written in Chinese to show to taxi drivers or when asking for directions.

✔️ Cash/Mobile Payment: While credit cards are becoming more widely accepted, mobile payment systems like Alipay (支付宝) and WeChat Pay (微信支付) are dominant in China. Consider setting up one of these if you’ll be in China for an extended period. Having some Chinese Yuan (CNY) cash on hand is also advisable.

Disclaimer: Travel times and costs are estimates and may vary. Always refer to the official HYROX website and the websites of transportation providers for the most up-to-date information and to help plan your route.
