Directions to HYROX Washington
HYROX Washington is happening at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. That’s at 801 Mt Vernon Pl NW, Washington, DC 20001. Let’s look at how to get there;
By Plane:
Primary Airport: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is your best bet – it’s super close, only about 5 miles away.
Alternative Airport: Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is another option, but it’s much farther – around 27 miles. While IAD might have more flights, think about the extra time and money it’ll take to get downtown.
Taxi/Rideshare: You can grab an Uber or Lyft no problem in DC. Expect to pay around $20-$30 from DCA, but from IAD, it could be $60-$80 or even more, especially if it’s a busy time. Pro tip: order your ride after you get your bags.
Public Transport:
From DCA: The Yellow Line Metro is your friend. Hop on and take it straight to the Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Station. It’s only about a 15-minute ride.
From IAD: This is a bit more complicated. You’ll need the Silver Line Express bus to the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station first. Then, take the Silver Line to Metro Center, switch to the Yellow or Green Line, and get off at the Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Station. Just a heads-up: going this way from IAD will take a lot longer than a taxi or rideshare – probably an hour or more.
By Train/Metro:
Nearest Station: The Mt Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Station (Yellow and Green Lines) is right next to the convention center – super easy!
Union Station (Amtrak): If you’re coming by Amtrak, you’ll arrive at Union Station. It’s about a mile away. You can walk (about 20 minutes), take the Red Line one stop south to Gallery Place-Chinatown and walk a few blocks west, or just grab a quick taxi or rideshare.

Tips for Traveling to HYROX Washington:
- Plan Ahead: DC traffic can be a real pain, especially during rush hour. Check traffic and Metro schedules before you head out.
- Weather: March in DC is usually pretty cool, like 40°F to 55°F (5°C to 13°C). Check the weather closer to the date and pack layers, because it can change fast!
- Arrive Early: Give yourself plenty of time – at least 1-2 hours before your race. This will help you with travel time, parking (if you’re driving), finding your way around the huge convention center, checking in, and warming up.
- Accommodation: If you’re staying overnight, book your hotel way in advance, because downtown hotels fill up fast, especially when there’s a big event. Look for hotels near Metro stations so it’s easy to get to the convention center and other places you want to visit.
- Metro SmartTrip Card: If you’re using the Metro a lot, get a SmartTrip card. It’s way easier than buying tickets every time.
- Walking: DC is a great city for walking! If your hotel isn’t too far, walking could be faster than driving or the Metro, especially during rush hour. Plus, you get to see the city!
Disclaimer: Travel times and costs are estimates and may vary. Always refer to the official HYROX website and the websites of transportation providers for the most up-to-date information and to help plan your route.

FAQ’s
Can you bring gels on HYROX?
Yes — you’re allowed to carry energy gels during a HYROX race as long as they are on your person when you start (in a pocket, pouch, shorts, etc.). You cannot accept gels or any food/drink from spectators during the event; only official aid stations can provide hydration.
Is HYROX harder than a marathon?
HYROX and a marathon are very different tests.
- A marathon is long-distance running (42.2 km) and tests sustained aerobic endurance.
- HYROX blends eight 1 km runs with eight functional workout stations, taxing strength, power and conditioning as well as endurance.
Many athletes find HYROX more intense in bursts and harder on muscular fatigue, while marathons demand greater long-distance stamina. One isn’t objectively “harder” than the other; they just challenge the body in different ways.
Does HYROX test for drugs?
Yes — HYROX enforces an anti-doping policy to promote fair play and clean sport. The rules align with anti-doping standards and state that athletes are expected to comply with these regulations. This includes potential testing for banned substances, both during events and out of competition, and the organisers can conduct random testing at any time to maintain fairness.
